Gunman Contracts - Stand Alone launched in Early Access on September 10, 2026. If you have just bought it, this page tells you what is actually in the build, what the mission structure looks like, and the most efficient order to play it in.
What you get on day one
The Early Access launch package is not a demo. The developer's own description confirms the following is included at launch:
| Content | At Early Access launch |
|---|---|
| Story contracts | 3 connected missions (3 more planned as free updates) |
| Home base | The Hive — gunwall, gun bench, gun range, holographic combat area |
| Challenge modes | Takedown Mode and Last Stand Mode, across 5 maps |
| Weapons | 18 to unlock, each with per-weapon attachments |
| Extras | Compound bow and knives, custom music, unlockable cheats, optional Low-Violence Mode |
Everything above comes from the store page. Anything else you have read elsewhere — weapon tier lists, exact damage numbers, a full mission list — has not been published by the developer yet. This site marks those as 待确认 rather than guessing.
The three story contracts
The campaign follows "the gunman" as he takes on a new target: The Collectors, described as a ruthless crime operation killing and kidnapping innocent people for reasons that are not explained at the start.
The three launch contracts take place across three connected locations:
- Safehouse — city outskirts
- Syndicate-run harbor warehouse district
- Mobster restaurant with a dark underbelly
Because the three missions are explicitly described as connected, the intended order is the order listed above: safehouse first, restaurant last. Skipping around is possible, but the story beats are written as one continuous operation.
Play order for your first two hours
Most players bounce off a new shooter because they jump straight into a mission before learning the controls. This game gives you a training facility specifically so that does not have to happen.
- Start at the Hive, not in a contract. It is your home base and it exists to be practised in. Spend ten minutes there before your first mission.
- Use the gun range skill games to feel out the shooting before you are being shot at.
- Play the Takedown Mode map as a warm-up. It is a closed area with a set number of enemies, so it teaches you enemy behaviour without a story fail state hanging over you.
- Then start the safehouse contract and work through the three missions in order.
- Come back to the Hive between missions. The gunwall is where weapons are stored and unlocked, so it is worth checking after every contract.
VR and non-VR
The game is built from the ground up for both VR and non-VR rather than ported to one from the other. Steam's store page confirms full controller support, tracked controller support, and DualShock controller support, plus Steam Cloud saves, Steam Achievements and Steam Leaderboards.
That means you do not need a headset to play. It also means leaderboards mix both player types — worth knowing before you compare your score against someone playing with their hands.
Early Access: what "unfinished" means here
The developer has stated three additional story missions will be added in free future updates. Early Access pricing at $24.99 reflects the current three-mission build.
The practical consequence for you as a player: your save, your unlocked weapons and your leaderboard scores all carry forward, but mission content will change. Do not treat any current mission layout as final.
Still unverified
These are open questions this page cannot answer honestly yet:
- The names of the 18 weapons and what each attachment does
- Enemy types and counts per contract (Takedown Mode allows selecting enemy types and counts, but the full roster is not published)
- Whether all 5 challenge maps are available immediately or unlocked progressively
- Any codes or promotions — there is no code system in this game as far as we can verify, so we do not publish any
